Sea Turtle ER (STERP) Program

When specific weather events occur in the fall, STERP volunteers walk the beach to search in the seaweed piles for trapped washbacks, in order to find and rescue these imperiled post-hatchlings.

Our volunteers also assist with transporting sea turtles to rehab facilities at Sea World, Ponce Inlet, Mote and other locations using either their own vehicles (must be enclosed) or our truck. We also utilize STERP volunteers when we have other major events, such as cold stuns or educational projects, in the later part of May and early June.

The Schedule for Training for STERP and required Turtle Talks can be found under the Education Section.
