Celebrating All Things STPS – Our Annual Silent Auction

Editor’s Note: During the month of May, we’re celebrating “All Things STPS” to commemorate our 38th anniversary on May 6th. This time, we take a quick look at the history of our auction.

Our Past Auctions

Did you know that STPS has been holding a fundraising auction since the early 1990s? Back then, it was an in-person auction as part of an annual STPS Sea Turtle Celebration event. For several years in the ‘90s, Ewald Auctions donated their services by conducting the auction of items which were generously donated by local businesses and supporters.

Now We Commemorate Sea Turtle Week with Our Silent Auction

As the years passed, the format and date of our auction changed. It’s now an online silent fundraiser which is held during Sea Turtle Week in June. Sea Turtle Week starts on World Ocean Day, followed by a day for each species of sea turtle, and ends on World Sea Turtle Day which is Archie Carr’s birthday.
