Take a Deep Dive into Florida’s Amazing Wildlife

STPS monthly meetings are a great way to learn more about sea turtles and other local wildlife here in Brevard County. This year, we’ve hosted a variety of speakers including sea turtle researchers, biologists from Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Research Institute, and conservation specialists from Brevard Zoo. Topics ranged from sea turtle conservation to the Manatee Research & Rescue program, Save Our Indian River Lagoon project, Florida Shorebird Alliance, Restore Our Shores, and more. Meet Allie Bernstein from the Marine Science Center at Our November Meeting

Our next meeting will feature guest speaker Allie Bernstein who is the Manager of Turtle Rehabilitation at the Marine Science Center (MSC) in Ponce Inlet, Florida. Allie is a certified veterinary technician, has an aquatic veterinary technician certification, and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies. She’s currently pursuing a Master’s in Veterinary Public Health. Allie has worked at MSC for 15 years and oversees the hospital administration and care of sea turtles, gopher tortoises, box turtles, and freshwater turtles. Her favorite species are green sea turtles and gopher tortoises.

The Marine Science Center opened in 2002 and is an environmental education center, bird rehabilitation hospital, and turtle rehabilitation hospital. It serves to improve the public’s understanding of the marine environments of Volusia County. Since opening, they’ve admitted over 20,000 birds and 28,000 reptiles and have welcomed more than a million visitors.
