Florida Keys Sea Turtle Photo ID Project

Attention Divers/Snorkelers: Please Submit Your Photos of Florida Keys Sea Turtles

Dr. Phillip Allman, Director of the J.N. Roth Marine Biology Station and Professor of Marine Biology at Goshen College, is studying how sea turtles utilize the reefs in the Florida Keys. He recently started a sea turtle photo ID project to collect old and new photos of sea turtles taken in the Keys by divers and snorkelers. Dr. Allman and his team are collaborating with conservation organizations (like STPS) and dive shops throughout the Keys to request photos from the public.

How to Submit Your Florida Keys Sea Turtle Photos:

Please use one of the methods below to submit your photos:

• Send an email to the address below. Please attach your photographs, provide the locations where they were taken (either the GPS locations or the names of the dive sites), and the dates when they were taken.

Florida Keys Sea Turtle Photo ID Project

Additional Information: Dr. Allman and his team are looking for photos in which the turtle comprises 30% of the full image (so the resolution is high enough). Also, they would like to receive multiple images of the same turtle showing the left side, right side, and top side of the head, but will accept a single photo that shows one side of the turtle’s head.

Please Remember: Sea turtles are endangered or threatened and protected by Federal law. When taking photos, please follow NOAA’s Marine Life Viewing Guidelines.
