Jack keeps everyone guessing
By Dean Bagley, UCF Marine Turtle Research Group
The most recent data came in for Jack at the start of the weekend, and added many locations to our map. I just can’t tell you what he’s doing out there. Google Earth says he’s 55 kilometers due north of Big Coppitt Key (just east of Boca Chica), and according to the NMFS chart I looked at, he is in 40-45 feet of water. I can’t imagine what he is finding so interesting out there, but we’ll keep watching and hopefully we can figure it out at some point. The best news I can think of is that I don’t believe there is any reef out there, so maybe he’ll keep his tag a little longer. If anyone has knowledge of that area, please let me know. More updates soon.
