Juvenile green sea turtle set to be released

Juvenile green sea turtle Scatman John will be released back into the ocean on Tuesday, Oct. 22, after a two-month stay at Brevard Zoo’s Sea Turtle Healing Center. The release will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Crowne Plaza Melbourne-Oceanfront.
Found stranded near the hotel and transported to the healing center by the Sea Turtle Preservation Society on Aug. 25, Scatman John arrived lethargic with a bacterial infection. The sea turtle was treated with nutritional support and medication, then deemed ready for release.
The event is open to the public, so come out and be part of this turtle’s send off. The Sea Turtle Preservation Society will be on site with an educational display, so please stop by and say hello. Our volunteers would love to talk turtle with you.
Scatman John was named as part of Proud Pour’s Cider for Sea Turtles launch campaign. Proud Pour is a Massachusetts beverage company that donates some proceeds from the cider to the Sea Turtle Healing Center. It is available locally at Sunseed Food Co-op in Cape Canaveral, 4th Street Fillin’ Station in Cocoa Beach and Petty’s Meat Market in Melbourne.
