Nesting numbers on record pace

Our survey volunteers are keeping extra busy this season, and nesting activity continues at a record pace.
As of July 31, teams had documented 513 loggerhead nests, five green nests and three leatherback nests in our STPS survey area.
During sea turtle nesting season, STPS survey volunteers are on the beach each morning at sunrise to document nesting activity in our survey area. At this time of year, teams monitor both new nesting activity as well as hatchlings emerging from nests. Volunteers will be on the beach daily for at least six more weeks. At the end of the season, the data collected will be forwarded to the state FWC.
