Strandings
In recent days, sea turtles have been stranding in Brevard and Volusia counties in high numbers. The majority of these sea turtles have been young green sea turtles covered in barnacles or algae and suffering from chronic debilitation. Officials aren’t sure of the cause at this time.
If you see a sea turtle in distress, please call the STPS hotline at 321-206-0646 or the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission at 888-404-3922 for assistance.
Please, do not return the sea turtle to the water. It is, most likely, too weak to survive in the water. Sea turtles are reptiles, so they breathe air and can safely be out of water for some time.
Thanks for helping sea turtles survive.
