Pamela Update by Dean Bagley
modified by Becky Aud
Pamela, a green turtle being tracked by UCF, is doing well and getting around! She seems to like hanging out around Aquarina most of the time; but also spends time near Floridana Beach and has made one trip down to the Barrier Island Center and back.
Green turtles usually nest at 11 to 13 day intervals. Though cold-water currents had been moving into the surround ocean area – which might discourage her from nesting – the search for Pamela began on Sunday, June 24th, 2018; the 11th night of her recent cycle. The search for her went on every night from 10pm to 5am. Pamela finally nested on Saturday, June 30th around 1am. She made me work for it, but I was able to find her and mark her nest; which was her second for the season. She appears to be staying around Aquarina.
