Ready, set… Turtle Krawl 2020

The 2020 Turtle Krawl 5K virtual event Sept. 12-15 offers participants the chance to come together to support sea turtle conservation while staying apart.

Registration is still open for the Sea Turtle Preservation Society’s annual fundraiser. Once registered online, participants will complete the event individually between Sept. 12-15, 2020.

“The Turtle Krawl has always brought the community together to support sea turtle conservation, and we hope this year is no exception,” said Susan Skinner, STPS board of directors chair. “We know the Covid-19 pandemic has been difficult for everyone, and we would like to thank our sponsors, donors, participants, and volunteers for their support of this year’s virtual event.”

This year’s sponsors include Blinds of All Kinds, Beachside Apartments, Coastal Health Systems of Brevard, Custom Air and Heat Inc., Paralegal Boot Camp, Running Zone, and Leslie Jordan Apparel.

All race proceeds benefit the Sea Turtle Preservation Society’s mission to help sea turtles survive. In past years, funds raised have supported the Brevard Zoo’s Sea Turtle Healing Center as well as STPS programs and activities, including rescue and transport of injured sea turtles, nesting surveys, night walks and other educational outreach programs as well as satellite transmitters for the UCF marine turtle research program.

The 2019 Turtle Krawl raised more than $60,000 for sea turtle conservation efforts, and $25,000 was donated to the Brevard Zoo’s Sea Turtle Healing Center at the end of the race.

More than 2,300 people took part in the 2019 Turtle Krawl, with 1,877 people registered for the live event in Nance Park and the rest opting to compete virtually.

Registration for the 2020 Turtle Krawl includes a race shirt with artwork by Nemo while supplies last, and participants may choose to add a special 2020 finisher medal to their registration.

The Turtle Krawl adoptions and donations program provides an opportunity to support local sea turtle conservation for those who do not wish to register for the race.
