Each year, FLORIDA TODAY honors those who give back to their communities through volunteering. On December 11th, they held their 32nd annual Volunteer Recognition Awards at the Bernard Simpkins Fine Arts Center on Eastern Florida State College’s Cocoa campus. This year, STPS was named Volunteer Organization of the Year for our educational outreach to the public on how to protect threatened and endangered sea turtles, our sea turtle rescues, and our significant impact on the community through our volunteer programs.

Chairperson Roger Pszonowsky summed up our mission saying, “We try to help sea turtles survive into the future. The biggest thing is keeping people educated about the beauty of these animals and the importance of the environment around them.” Shown below is Roger (center) holding the award with Stranding & Salvage Permit Holder Cyndi Stinson and Communications Director Joel Cohen.
