Tracking Turtles… Redfoot and Spencer Updates
We received another update on Redfoot and Spencer from Dean Bagley! She explains below! (All information from Dean Bagley’s research and communication)
Redfoot
Redfoot’s left his nice little spot 2.4 km east of John D. MacArthur State Park, and started south. He stopped again for about 12 hours or so, between Boynton and Delray Beaches, about 1.45km from shore. With the last hit, it looks like he might be starting south again, or he could just be exploring. We’ll have to wait and see!
Spencer
Spencer has continued to make his way south, and is still migrating. He was off Big Coppitt Key earlier today, with the last hit. This is not far north of Key West. Where will he end up?
Until this year, none of the turtles have returned to the same foraging area, but this year already, two have returned to west of the Marquesas where Dean will be working for a couple of days in August. Maybe Spencer is heading there, too?
These are the last two turtles that are still migrating. Of the other three, two ended up west of the Marquesas and one is off Islamorada.
