Volunteer Q&A: Education
So you’d like to volunteer with the Sea Turtle Preservation Society? We’re here to help you get started. This week, we will feature information about each of our programs and the volunteer opportunities available. Please take a look and find what interests you, then either complete a volunteer application online at seaturtlespacecoast.org or attend our Volunteer Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2020, in Room 109 next to our Turtle House at 111 S. Miramar Ave. in Indialantic, FL.

What type of program is this?
The STPS Education Department is very diverse. We educate the public about sea turtles. We are the face of STPS because we give presentations and talk turtle face to face with the community. However, we also have behind-the scenes operations acting as the backbone of our programs.
What would I do as a volunteer?
· Organizing paperwork
· Checking in/out Turtle Trunks
· Organization and upkeep of the education center
· Setting up displays
· Managing the educational literature
· Handing out literature to condos and resorts
· Giving presentations and trainings
· Educating kids about sea turtles through activities and special presentations
· Helping with registration at our events
· Writing & researching for grants
· Creating PowerPoint presentations/flyers/posters/brochures
What is the time commitment?
The time commitment will vary depending on what area you would like to volunteer for. There are volunteer opportunities with small time commitments sporadically or there are positions that would require more responsibility and obligation of time.
Are there any special requirements?
After completing Turtle Talk 101 and Volunteer Orientation, additional training would be required for giving presentations/trainings. Everything else can be learned while volunteering.
Are there any costs associated?
Not typically, but we are designing an education T-shirt that would involve a cost if the individual would like to purchase one.
Who would I contact for more information or with any questions?
Our Director of Education, Becky Aud, at education@seaturtlespacecoast.org.
