Volunteer Q&A: Membership

So you’d like to volunteer with the Sea Turtle Preservation Society? We’re here to help you get started. This week, we will feature information about each of our programs and the volunteer opportunities available. Please take a look and find what interests you, then either complete a volunteer application online at seaturtlespacecoast.org or attend our Volunteer Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2020, in Room 109 next to our Turtle House at 111 S. Miramar Ave. in Indialantic, FL.
What type of program is this?
Our STPS membership team coordinates all of our member programs, from signing up new members to retaining our current members and everything in between.
What would I do as a volunteer?
Currently, our membership team has the following opportunities:
Membership Event Coordinator, this person will plan and set up member meetups, member day trips, etc. This will include reserving venues, travel arrangements, and taking the events through to completion. The coordinator would also need to schedule volunteers through VIC, volunteer signup system.
Membership Benefits Coordinator, this person will review our member pricing and make sure we offer the best rates for what we offer, actively search for new member benefits we can include in membership, work with businesses, and keep up to date with agreements, etc.
Membership Recruitment/Retention Coordinator, this person will review membership trends, look for opportunities to increase membership, develop programs to welcome members to STPS, create a forum where members can ask questions and voice concerns, and find opportunities to make members feel welcome and wanted to continue to be part of this great sea turtle community.
What is the time commitment?
The time necessary for these coordinators will vary, but most likely will be a few hours each month.
Are there any special requirements?
No additional training is required beyond Turtle Talk 101 and Volunteer Orientation, but these volunteers will need to have basic computer skills.
Are there any costs associated?
There are no specific costs associated with communications, although volunteers will need to provide their own computer or have access to one.
Who would I contact for more information or with any questions?
For questions or more information, contact the STPS Membership Director at membership@seaturtlespacecoast.org.
