Volunteer Q&A: Turtle Krawl 5K

So you’d like to volunteer with the Sea Turtle Preservation Society? We’re here to help you get started. Over the next week, we will feature information about each of our programs and the volunteer opportunities available. Please take a look and find what interests you, then either complete a volunteer application online at seaturtlespacecoast.org or attend our Volunteer Fair from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 22, 2020, in Room 109 next to our Turtle House at 111 S. Miramar Ave. in Indialantic, FL.
What type of program is this?
This is our annual 5K Run/Walk event and our biggest fundraiser that will take place on Sept. 12, 2020, at Nance Park in Indialantic, FL. This is a family event, and there are volunteer opportunities for adults, students, and children. You don’t need to be an STPS member nor a registered STPS volunteer to help with this event.
What would I do as a volunteer?
There are many volunteer opportunities available for Turtle Krawl. We have pre-race activities such as distributing posters, inspecting and bagging race shirts/medals and early bag pick up. The largest amount of help is needed the day of the race as it takes about 100 volunteers to have a race as large as the Turtle Krawl. We need volunteers to set up, help with food, hand out cups of water to the racers, serve as course marshals, help with awards, clean up, sign up volunteers, parking attendants…. just to mention some.
What is the time commitment?
A normal shift is about 3-4 hours. And you can volunteer one day or as many as you want. Pre-race activities take place indoors, usually at Running Zone or at the Turtle House. All volunteer activities on race day are outdoors.
Are there any special requirements?
Most are easy activities that require no previous training. More detailed information will be available at the TK Volunteer sign up page. Students can get community hours; children in elementary school 8 years and older can volunteer with their parents, school or community group.
Are there any costs associated?
There are no costs to volunteer. You will need to have a computer or a cell phone to receive emails and to sign up. In May/June we’ll have a Signup Page posted on our website, turtlekrawl.com, Facebook and Instagram pages. If you are in our mailing list, you’ll be notified and will receive a link to the volunteer sign up when it becomes available. It’s that easy!
All Turtle Krawl volunteers receive a special discount if they wish to order a race shirt.
Who would I contact for more information or with any questions?
