Volunteer Spotlight: Monty Fein
Monty Fein
The buzz around town was “who is making these rock sculptures on the beach?” It’s Monty, Sea Turtle Preservation member and our vessel into the deep blue sea. Twenty years ago, Monty created metal sculptures and topiaries for a local zoo. Today, he lives and thrives in Satellite Beach. He and his wife, Ruth are both observational and reflective artists bringing an awareness to our local community. Want to see Monty’s artwork? There is now an ongoing and alternating display at Pelican Beach near the picnic tables. Monty and Ruth have a special kind of love for our sea turtles. The leatherback and all other art currently displayed is constructed of shells, rocks, coconuts, concrete and asphalt, all of which have washed up on our local beaches. Monty and Ruth share a quiet motivation, which takes them to the beaches daily to collect their materials. Not only do they collect sculpting materials, they also remove other damaging elements from our beaches, such as plastics, cans, glass, and any other discarded items left behind by man. Thank you Monty and Ruth for your quest and vision.
