Volunteer Spotlight: Princess
Princess has volunteered with Sea Turtle Preservation Society for 15 years now! She has been involved with turtle walks and our Turtle Krawl 5k. She also used to work at our store.
Princess earned her nickname when there were multiple Debbies! Someone else was known as the Queen, so Princess took the nickname Princess! She always leads the North team, which comes from her experiences walking when she started. She used to walk in Satellite Beach and wasn’t getting turtles, so she thought she was the turtle repellent! When she started walking and going north in Melbourne Beach, she would always get a turtle… hence, why she always goes north!
Princess has a bubbly personality and is a great teacher to those STPS members who are new to walks. She’s very lively and a great beach walker. She has many stories she would love to share, such as the time she walked north (of course) at Melbourne Beach and she thought they had a leatherback. It turned out to be two mating greens!
She’s also had the opportunity to have leatherback hatchlings crawl between her legs, an experience she will never forget! One of her most amazing stories includes a leatherback nesting in Melbourne Beach!
Her advice for people interested in sea turtles and Sea Turtle Preservation Society is to come to our monthly meetings and get to know other members!
Princess undoubtedly has a bunch of knowledge to share, and we are so lucky to have her represent Sea Turtle Preservation Society!
