Washbacks
Post Irma, as many natural events, we are having many turtles washing back on our beaches. Lots of people are referring to these turtles as “washbacks.” We prefer to use the terms hatchling and post-hatchlings.
Hatchlings are turtles that have just hatched and have not yet been out to sea. Post-hatchlings are turtles that have made it out to sea. Both of these are stages of the turtle life cycle.
Our stranding team is back in full swing collecting both hatchlings and post-hatchlings in need!
