What’s in your candy?

This month, STPS volunteers had the opportunity to host a treat station during Brevard Zoo’s Boo at the Zoo events. It was a boo-rific time, and we enjoyed sharing treats with all of the trick-or-treaters who stopped by to see us.
As recommended by the zoo, we chose to share Halloween treats that were made with sustainably produced palm oil. Palm oil is a common ingredient in everyday household items, such as snacks and shampoo. And while palm oil is not harmful to people, unsustainably harvested palm oil threatens the habitat of orangutans and other animals.
Please take a look at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s orangutan-friendly Halloween guide before any last-minute shopping for treats this week. More information about palm oil can be found at http://www.cmzoo.org/index.php/conservation-matters/palm-oil-crisis/
